Magnetic properties of NaV2O5, a one-dimensional spin 1/2 Heisenberg system with finite chains
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have performed measurements of the magnetic susceptibility of NaV2O5 between 2 and 400 K. The high temperature part is typical of spin 1/2 chains with a nearest–neighbour antiferromagnetic exchange integral of 530 K. We develop a model for the susceptibility of a system with finite chains to account for the low temperature part of the data, which cannot be fitted by a standard Curie-Weiss term. These results suggest that the next nearest–neighbour exchange integral J2 in CaV4O9 should be of the order of 500 K because, like J in NaV2O5, it corresponds to corner sharing VO5 pyramids. We have performed measurements of the magnetic susceptibility of NaV2O5 between 2 and 400 K. The high temperature part is typical of spin 1/2 chains with a nearest–neighbour antiferromagnetic exchange integral J of 529 K. We develop a model for the susceptibility of a system with finite chains to account for the low temperature part of the data, which cannot be fitted by a standard Curie-Weiss ...
متن کاملWeakly Coupled Antiferromagnetic Quantum Spin Chains
Quasi-one-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets formed by a d-dimensional hypercubic lattice of weakly coupled spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains are studied by combining exact results in one-dimension and renormalization group analyses of the interchain correlations. It is shown that d-dimensional magnetic long-range order develops at zero-temperature for infinitesimal antiferromagnet...
متن کاملResponse of finite spin - S Heisenberg chains to local perturbations
We consider the properties of finite isotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains with S = 1/2, 1, 3/2 spins when a weak magnetic field is applied on a few sites, using White's density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. For the S = 1 chain there exists only one length scale in the system which determines the behavior of the one-and two-point correlation functions both around the local...
متن کاملDynamical Properties of Spin-Orbital Chains in a Magnetic Field
The excitation spectrum of the one-dimensional spin-orbital model in a magnetic field is studied, using a recently developed dynamical density matrix renormalization group technique. The method is employed on chains with up to 80 sites, and examined for test cases such as the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain, where the excitation spectrum is known exactly from the Bethe Ansatz. In th...
متن کاملThe density-matrix renormalization group applied to transfer matrices: Static and dynamical properties of one-dimensional quantum systems at finite temperature
The density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) applied to transfer matrices allows it to calculate static as well as dynamical properties of onedimensional quantum systems at finite temperature in the thermodynamic limit. To this end the quantum system is mapped onto a two-dimensional classical system by a Trotter-Suzuki decomposition. Here we discuss two different mappings: The standard mappi...
